Hi everyone!

Thanks for all your prayers! I am finally done with my exams! All my exams went okay, except one...I'm really worried about my calculus exam. I didn't know how to do half the exam...I studied the wrong things. *sigh* Oh well, at least now that's over and I can have 2 weeks of rest!!! And finally, I'll get my friend to finish your song, Joanna :)

My church is planning a mission trip to Argentina next year! And if you know me well, you'd know I'm from Argentina!! :) I'm not sure if I can go yet...depends if my dad lets me go or not. So please keep that in your prayers. And also, another friend and I will be teaching Spanish at church for those who are interested in going to Argentina... right now we're preparing the course syllabus so please pray that we will be able to teach them enough Spanish in this short time (5 months!) so that they can carry conversations, and maybe give their testimonies in Spanish :)

Hmm...I don't really have any plans for my winter holidays. Just chill, skate, read some books, hang out with friends...Not going anywhere far hehe.

Wow, you seem to like the child caring job, Joanna :) How are the kids? What age range do you take care of?

Thanks for your prayers everyone,

Diego

Hi Diego!
Hahah...I've been so busy, I kinda forgot all about my song! Haa...okie! Thanks a lot!

Wow! It'll be great to be back in ur home country! My church has been organising mission trips (or rather to teach the Thais English as an outreach to minister to them) to Thailand. But I didn't have a chance to go with them yet.

Christmas is round the corner! So happy! Anyway, about my Child Care job, I may be finding another similar job elsewhere instead. Pls pray for me coz I'm not sure if I should change to another centre. The 'politics' between employer and employees here isn't that good and the boss has vvv high expectations of me and is rather demanding. Always don't really get what she wants coz of the way she puts her message across (rather sacarstic) Hopefully I can find a Christian child care. At least I think with God in mind, the way the centre is managed and stuff like that will be more suitable for me. Currently the one I'm in is in a hospital..which means that most of the children's parents are staff of the hospital. Oh, we have children as young as about 15 months to Kindergarten Two which are about 6 years old.

Just went for a concert "The Music of Christmas with Dick Lee and Friends" at the Esplanade (Singapore). It's organised by the Catholic Church of St. Ignatius and I really loved the whole concert! It really felt so Christmasey.

Hi everyone,

Merry Christmas to y'all!!!

Hey Joanna, here's a little present for you...My friend finished composing your song!!

http://diego.homeip.net/instrumental.mp3
http://diego.homeip.net/firstdraft.mp3

I apologize I don't have very good recording equipment, so those songs are not that good quality.

The instrumental version has the piano accompaniement, and the melody is played by an oboe.

The first draft version is sung by the composer's brother. I know at the beginning it's not very loud, but that's because at the end if gets pretty loud and high hehe.

Take a look, and let me know what you think. Was that what you were expecting? Or did you have in mind another style? My friends said they want to know, so they can maybe make some changes.

We will try again throughout the week to record better versions...

Merry Christmas,

Diego

Hey Joanna,

You're welcome :) I wonder if this is actually the first Christian song composed across physical borders by people who haven't even met...That'd be so cool :)

Here is my composer friend's reply after I sent him your comments:

"I should have completed the song much earlier than this but school was kinda distracting so that prevented me from finishing it before Christmas break started.
You know, nothing would thrill me as a composer more than hearing these wonderful compliments from you and your friend, it gives me so much encouragement and confidence (especially because i'm a music major) I see this as an opportunity to develop my music skills and further my technique in composing, and not as a burden. Please say thanks to your friend, for liking my music and appreciating them."

And my singer friend says he apologizes for the quality of the song...we'll try to record sometime again this week when his voice feels better. We're also planning to add some percussion too this week hehe. Awesome!

Happy New Year everyone,

I am reallllllllllllly tired these few days, seemed I didn't take any rest at all..

starting in Dec 1, I have my 80 th anniversary sch open day, (5-7/12) and then 80 th anniversary dinner and mass on 13-14/12, work and work until 20/12 with only 1 day rest..

when all sch 80 th ann activities were over, i have to prepare the sch examination in Jan, and finished all the unfinished job in Nov, so thanked god that sch prin didn't 'chase' me for the Nov's minutes...

when I was excited with my x'mas holiday, mum made it disappeared as she told me she has the chance to move her house..

I spent totally 2 weeks to clean their house, packed their things, and tidied up their new house Mum has to work, my sister didn't do anything to the new house, she didn't pack her own things, mum dare not scold her... but my sister scolded my mum these and those are dirty and why not clean them up....Both of them thought I would do all for them, and they just sit and wait me to serve them.... I was very very angry.....

when the new furniture sent to thier home, what they did is arguing for how to place them but not trying to move all their packings to the new wardrobe and shelves....

when all things seemed settle down, i thought I could take rest, my sister called me mum seriously sick last friday night, and I together with my friend ( who lives with me) and my sister sent her to hospital, luckily, just a little bit problem with her stomach, when I arived home, it was already 5 o'clock (Saturday).... I am really really very tired...

not having enough rest, I have to work again.... when I came home yesterday night, I found my friend was seriously sick, she's got µÇª¢....... doctor said, if she's got fever, she has to stay in hospital...

Pls pray for me...as for a good rest and my friend's sickness

Hi everyone!

Sorry for being off the board for so long. School started earlier this month, and it just seems that it never ends! >_<

Joanna, of course you can change your song :) Do you want to change everything to "bian" or "pang"? Also...my friend that sang the song in the recording went back to Taiwan, and he's coming back I think end of March. So we can't make any recordings now :( But we'll try to find a female singer, and see if we can make it a duet thing :P I also need to ask you something else. In April our church will have a fundraising event for a mission trip to Argentina. My friend who composed your song is performing a couple of piano pieces, and he's thinking of also performing your song at the fundraising event. Is that okay with you?

Teresa, how are you lately? Were you able to get more rest nowadays? Are your mom and friend well now? I'll keep praying for you...

Hi Joanna,

Are you still working at the child care centre? How's that going? Does your school start in March?

Personally, I like the lyrics the way they are now. If you change everything to "bian" or "pang", to me it would sound too repetitive, 'cause you're saying the same thing three times in a row...So I like how you changed it the second time. I guess if you wanted emphasis though, you would repeat the same thing three times...It's up to you :)

My composer friend (by the way, his name is Daniel Lin :) ) is also asking if you have a name for the song in mind.

God bless,

Diego

That's fine with me too actually. haha...actually I do have two names in mind. What do you think of these? §ÚÌ¥Ã¦bªº¯« & §ÚÌ¬O§_¤w·P®¦ or if he has a better title on mind, he can use it! Were you able to find a job so far?

I've told my friend about the 2 titles for the song...he said he's going to think about it, and consult his family (since they helped him compose)...I'll get back to you as soon as he tells me :)

Please pray for me since the upcoming weeks are full of exams and essays to hand in...I'm going to be stressed out to the max. Please pray that I'll be able to manage my time well.

Please also keep a mission trip that my church is planning to Argentina and Uruguay this summer (well, our summer is from may till sept). Unfortunately, the three Argentina people at my church, including myself, probably won't be able to go with them...so please that they will be prepared when they go. Right now we're holding Spanish lessons for them, and it's quite difficult to learn a whole new language in 4 months...so please pray for them. "I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength" (Phil 4:13)...one of my favourite verses :)

I talked to my composer friend, and he said that he and his family prefer the name §ÚÌ¬O§_¤w·P®¦, because it fits better with a song that's written in a minor key. But I guess the final decision is yours, since it's your song :)

It's good to hear that you were able to get a job. What will you be doing at the student centre? Teaching? What subjects will you teach?

I wonder how Teresa is doing...Last time she posted a message she was in pretty bad shape...Wonder how she's doing now...

Phew...Finally, this week's over. I had such a crazy week -- been so tired, and stressed. I had to miss a worship team meeting and practice today 'cause I was way too tired. Hi Diego,
It's okay with me. Can go ahead using that as the title.

At the student care centre (which is before and after school care) is for pri sch children (who are aged 6-12). As a teacher there, we have to help them with their schoolwork which means we got to be competent to teach any subjects (consisting of English, Chinese, Maths, Science) and also to plan activities for them together with volunteers. So from next week onwards, I'll be working at two places: one in the morning and one in the afternoon/evening. PLease pray that God will sustain me as I work long hours and also that I can still fit in time for volunteering and piano lessons.

Yeah, hope she's doing fine...pb too. Have a great weekend! =) Oh by the way, my results will be out next wk. VV anxious and worried about it but have been telling myself to have faith.

Hi Joanna,

I'll pray for you, that God will give you rest during these tiring times.

I'm pretty tired too, actually. School is just really stressful, and I've been finding myself missing some church events because of school works. I know, it's not good...And that's not the least of my problems. I've been taking a course on world religions at school as my elective, and I've learned a lot of new things about other religions. And sometimes all these new info can be overwhelming. Looking back, I can see that my spiritual life has actually been declining. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with this course I'm taking, but I think it has at least a little bit to do. So yeah, I need some time now to reflect on all this, what all this means, what does the Bible say, and just find myself again....But so far I've been so busy I don't have time to think about this...so yeah, pray for me, that I can get all this stuff figured out and that I can find God again after I sort through all these distracting concepts from other religions...

Thanks,

I believe He has a plan for you by giving you a chance to study world religions. Perhaps from the study of other religions, He wants to test you or maybe make you realise who is your God.

Good Friday and Easter is coming soon. Do you know in Singapore, there're two movies showing - The Passion of the Christ and the Gospel of John showing during that period? The latter has been showing since March 18 while the former starts on 1st April here in theatres. Just wondering if anyone caught any one of these shows already.

Hi Joanna,

Thanks for the words of encouragement :)

Yeah, I've seen those two movies. They are pretty good. The Gospel of John follows word-by-word the Gospel of John, in the Good News version (or was it NLT? I think it was Good News...) So you might want to read the Gospel of John before seeing that movie; it will help you follow the story better. The Passion of the Christ is about the last 12 days of Jesus. It's pretty interesting, and dramatic, as you'll surely discover. This movie definitely shows the suffering that Christ had to go through for our sins...One quote that really struct me was when the Roman soldiers asked someone to carry the cross for Jesus, the person replied: "Okay. But remember, I'm just an innocent person carrying the cross for a condemned person"...and I just though, how ironic...Overall, the movie is very well done, and very dramatic in showing the suffering of Christ.

Hope you enjoy the movies,

Diego

Yup, I've watched it. It was very heartbreaking to watch. SO much Christ went through. What I'm more thankful was that my non-Christian friend whom I brought along to the show asked who's who in the show and I felt glad because it means she's interested to find out more. I told her briefly and afraid she might not be able to remember, I printed out the whole story from the Bible.

Hi everyone,

Sorry for not posting for so long. After my exams were done, I've been trying to find a job really hard. The reason is because I need 600 hours of engineering related work to graduate, and this is my second last summer. So I have to work this summer...

Congratulations on getting accepted! What's your first choice? I hope you'll get more acceptances in the coming weeks :)

I thank God that I was able to get a job this summer. It's not really what I was hoping for (programming), but I think I'd still learn some stuff at this job. I'm currently doing research on e-commerce stuff, because the company wants to market and sell a product. So...I basically spend 8 hours a day surfing the net...

The mission team from my church just left last Thursday to Uruguay! I've heard that they arrived safely there already on Friday. Praise the Lord! I was really worried coz the airport is a dangerous place there...And then after a week or so, they'll go to Argentina and spend about a week there as well. Please pray for them!

Thanks,

Diego

Hi Diego,
Thanks. My first choice is actually to get into the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences to perhaps study Social Work. But I really don't mind occupational therapy at all.

Yup, will keep them in my prayers!

Happy Working!

Hehe, sorry about the above post. I've tried posting a couple of days ago, but got an error, so I wasn't able to post for a while...and so I was just testing to see if I could post again :)

Anyway...

Joanna, have you received any more acceptance letters? It must be a pretty nervous time for you! I hope you get into the school and program of your choice. I'll be praying for you and your future career...

Thank you for your prayers regarding my church's mission team. They've just arrived today and everything went well! Praise God!!!! They all seem to be very excited to share their experiences and stories...and I'm looking forward to hear the stories and see the pictures! I'll share some of the stories here later :) Praise the Lord! Thanks for your prayers!

I thank God also that I was able to switch jobs. The one I had previously wasn't very exciting - I had to research on the internet, so pretty much surfing 8 hours a day. Now I have a job as a software engineer, and I'll be programming some network applications. It's pretty amazing how everything worked out, actually. Last Friday, it was the end of my 2-week probation period, and I was supposed to meet with my boss and discuss about my performance, and whether he wants to keep me or not, and whether I want to stay or not. But then on Thursday my boss tells me to work from home on Friday, 'cause he has to pick up his daughter from the airport. So I said okay, I'll work from home. Then on Thursday night, I get a call from a professor regarding a job application I sent earlier that week, and he says he wants to interview me. So we set the interview on Friday. And It's just amazing how it all worked out, because if I didn't work from home on Friday, I wouldn't have been able to go to the interview, and I wouldn't have gotten this new job. So...I really thank God for allowing me to get this new job :)

How are you doing with working at 2 places? Do you get really tired? Or are you used to it now?

God bless,

Diego

Hi Diego!
I've decided to take up occupational therapy. School starts on the first week of July. Very fast! I'll be working till end June so not much time to prepare actually. Oh well, guess I'm quite used to it. I'm trying to cut down my afternoon working hours but not very successful but thank God I'll be able to go for a short holiday from 16th-20th. Gonna take a break from everything.

It's really God's blessing! Feel happy for you!

Hi Joanna,

Congratulations on your decision. I hope you enjoy your studies and that God will be able to use you as a therapist.

So how long is the program? First week of July is coming up quickly! I hope you'll be able to enjoy your last few weeks of study-free hehe :)

I just realized that your holiday just ended today! So what did you do? Did you go somewhere? Did you have fun? I hope so :)

I'm enjoying the job I have now! I'm working with the professor and other graduate and undergrad students on cutting-edge research! And I have a deadline too on the first week of July - July 6th to be exact. And since this is cutting-edge, there's not much resources for me check out, so it's really difficult to write the computer programs. If anyone knows how to build an optimal mesh using k-minimum spanning trees for an overlay network given the physical links, let me know!! Anyway, pray for me that I'll be able to finish my part of the project before the deadline.

Oh yeah! I'll tell you a story from the mission team. One day they went to visit a hospital in Uruguay. There were a couple of people that were travelling by ship, but something happened to the ship and they almost drowned, and they've been at the hospital for 2 weeks. But the problem was that they spoke mandarin, but no people at the hospital knew mandarin, so the doctors couldn't communicate with the patients. So when the mission team went, they were able to help out. Only one from the mission team knew mandarin well, but the Spanish of another member was better, so this is what they did. The nurse would tell, in Spanish, to one of the coordinators of Operation Mobilization that was taking the mission team around, what the nurses needed to tell the patients. Then that coordinator would convert that to simpler Spanish and tell it to the mission team member with better Spanish. Then that member would translate it to English and tell it to the member that knew Mandarin. And then the member that knew Mandarin would translate it to Mandarin and tell the patients. And so finally the nurses were able to communicate with the patients! It's awesome how God uses skills specific to each one to help others. This wouldn't be possible if only one of the members were there - it was the whole team that made it possible. I think it's just awesome...Praise the Lord!

Hi Diego,
Sorry for the late reply. Have been busy at work. This course that I'll be taking lasts for 3 years and if I go on to a degree, it'll be a 4-year course.

Yes, I did enjoy myself. It was a good break from work.

Wow! That's a great testimony! Praise the Lord!

Hey Joanna,

So do you start school this week? Are you looking forward to it? :)

I'm really tired from work...I have a deadline next Tuesday, and things are not going as planned. I'm working really long hours, weekends, and even holidays (July 1st was Canada Day, and I had to work...). Please pray for my work and my health...

Thanks,

Diego

Hi Diego,
Yes, I started school this week. I'm really thankful to God for putting me in this course though it wasn't my first choice. After knowing much more about the course, I realised there's a lot more aspects in this course for me to serve the community than doing Social Work, which I intended to pursue. There's psychology, sociology too in my course which means I have the chance to counsel people too. What I'm studying now is quite similar to a Medical student so it's very tough but I'm sure He'll see me through these 3 or 4 years of study.

In the meantime, I'm looking forward to SOP's concert tour! It'll be the National Day weekend so I guess all the nights will be packed! I'm now trying to get hold of Vol 9.

I can understand your busy-ness. After experiencing working and now studying, I prefer studying. When I was studying, I preferred working, thinking it's better coz there isn't any exams and stuff but after working, I realise this is wrong. Working is much more tiring. Do take care of your health! Will be praying for u!

Hey Joanna,

Wow, nice! Good to hear that you're enjoying the career you're pursuing. That's always a plus. If you enjoy what you're studying, I'm sure 3 or 4 years will fly by really fast. For me, I've been in university for 2 years now, and I just can't believe I'm already halfway through my undergraduate degree! Anyway, I'll keep praying for your studies!

I really thank God that my (work) team was able to finish the last deadline. Some of us had to stay overnight on Monday, but well, at least we got it done. We took 2 days off after that, to get re-fueled.

Yeah, before, I couldn't wait to finish school and start working, coz I thought I'd have more free time when I started working. But now, it seems like I have even less time than when I was studying!! I guess since it's a research job, and there's no fixed hours, it's different...If I had a 9-5 job, maybe I'd have more free time...but I think in the field of computers, there's not much free time, from what I've seen from friends who are in the industry already. But well, at least I enjoy what I do so it's not so bad...

This coming weekend is our church's summer retreat. It'll be a joint retreat with 4 other Taiwanese churches, and we'll be going to a university (living in residence) on Friday and come back on Sunday. Please pray for the unity of the Taiwanese churches in Toronto...

Thanks,

Diego

Hey Joanna,

Thanks for your prayers! The retreat was awesome! We had a lot of fun worshipping God, getting closer to Him, and getting to know other people from other Taiwanese churches in Toronto. It was a really great weekend, and I think a lot of people came out of it pondering about the questions posed by the speaker, including myself...

So how are your classes going? Do you like your courses? Your profs? How's the course load? Do you live on campus or at home?

Hope everything's going well!

Hi Diego,
Great to hear that!

My classes are alright except memorising of medical terms like the names of muscles, veins, arteries are rather tough. And physiology too. I quite like the Psychology and Sociology. SO far we're given three assignments already and they're counted as our assessment. Quite stressful but I'm sure He'll see me through. We'll be going on clinical attachments end of the year. I live at home. Very few people actually live on campus for my school.

Hi Joanna,

Nice!! So good that you were able to attend one of their worship services! Let's pray that SOP will continue to bless believers and non-believers through their work and their concerts!

So which songs from their latest album do you like? I haven't gotten their latest CD yet...Not sure when I'll be able to do that. I don't think they're coming to Toronto this year, so I won't be able to get it at the concert. And I don't live near any of the stores that sell their CDs...

I wonder when their GLOW series will come out...I'm looking forward to those too.

Hi Diego!
It was really encouraging to see so many people raising their hands to indicate they were attending the concert for the first time and I brought my friend who haven't really heard of SOP to their worship and she wants to go for it again if they're coming to S'pore. =)

I like most of the songs in the CD. Probably shen shen ai ni, jin ru feng sheng, wo de jiu shu ze huo zhe...

It's okay. Just wanna know if you're fine.

I'm kinda stressed too. There's lots to study and my exams are a month away. I haven't done well in the tests. I'm studying full-time. For my course, it's only offered full-time.

Take care! God Bless
